Daily Deal: Automatic Connected Car Adapter
from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept
Get an easy-to-read look into what’s going on with your car with the Automatic Connected Car Adapter. Plug it into your dashboard and start tracking fuel efficiency and driving habits, figure out what that warning light is trying to tell you, or find your car when you’ve forgotten where you’ve parked. The adapter also monitors for major collisions and will alert Automatic Labs to call and to stay on the line with you until help arrives. It is compatible with most vehicles sold in the US after 1996 and integrates with a number of apps so you can track mileage for business or control your Nest to heat up the house on the way home. It is currently available in the Techdirt Deals Store for $89.95.

For the low, low price of $89.95, you too can have your driving habits and location monetized by a third party and “their business partners”.
Yeah onstar is bad enough. Now let’s just plug into the OBD-2 port on the car with a smartphone app.
Given all the worry in these pages about government abuse of third-party data stores and the insecurity of the Internet of Things in general and car features/accessories in specific, I’m a little surprised to see this with no mention of whether I can trust it or not.

Ain’t irony grand?

It seems that Techdirt’s attitude on things can change depending on how much money you give them.
oh HELL no
I have bought many techdirt deals but why this one is even on here shows that either a) techdirt is not filtering or b) techdirt does not care.
Wow. For $89.95 this device provides the accident-link OnStar callback thing. Everything else about it can be done with a $3 bluetooth ODBII reader and a free app from the Android store.
