DailyDirt: High-Tech Food
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
From the farm/factory/lab to the plate/tray/takeout container, technology is constantly changing the things we do with food every step of the way. Here are three recent intersections of food and tech that range from the novel to the potentially revolutionary:
- IBM’s Watson AI supercomputer has designed its own barbecue sauce recipe — and apparently it’s pretty damn good. Far from traditional, it contains (among other things) rice vinegar, dates, cilantro, tamarind, cardamom and turmeric . [url]
- This $1,000 toaster uses glass-embedded semiconductors instead of metal heating elements, and can cook steak and shrimp. It looks cool too, and it’s coming to the US next year. [url]
- LEDs with finely-tuned wavelengths could be the future of indoor farming and market gardening. In addition to giving crops the exact light they need, LEDs have a host of other benefits over traditional fluorescent grow-lamps. [url]
