Cingular Picks MediaFLO For Its Mobile TV

Cingular has announced that it will use the MediaFLO mobile TV network, meaning that Qualcomm’s locked up the US’ top two mobile operators. Verizon Wireless announced some time ago it would use MediaFLO, and it plans to launch its V CAST TV service sometime in March. This would seem be a nail in the coffin of DVB-H, a rival technology, in the US, as it leaves two vendors fighting over the two remaining national operators. The bigger issue, though, is for the mobile TV market as a whole: do people really want it enough to buy expensive new devices and pay for it?
