Not So Seamless After All: Former AT&T Wireless Customers Sue Cingular
While the brand names of Cingular and AT&T Wireless may finally be merging once the new AT&T (formerly SBC) swallows Bellsouth, allowing BellSouth and AT&T to merge their ownership of Cingular (which bought the old AT&T Wireless, which, of course, was separate from the old AT&T — got that?), it appears there are still some complaints about how Cingular handled the integration with the old AT&T Wireless. While they promised it would be “seamless” the reality suggested it was anything but seamless — leading a group of former AT&T Wireless customers to sue Cingular, claiming they were lied to. The customers claim that, not only was the service worse, they were told to pay up to switch to Cingular, or still pay their huge early termination fee. Of course, no one should have expected the transition and integration to be totally seamless, but Cingular clearly didn’t do a very good job dealing with customers who found themselves worse off after the merger.
