Does Anyone Care If Their Mobile Games Are Branded By NBC Sports?
The argument for sports content on mobile phones is pretty clear. It’s one area that many people have absolutely no time paying for up-to-the minute data, photos, video, news, whatever — just to keep up with what’s happening with their favorite teams. ESPN is certainly hoping it means people will shell out big bucks on their MVNO service. However, will that mean all mobile sports related content will be a hit? NBC Sports, which is obviously a much smaller player in the sports broadcasting world than ESPN, isn’t going the MVNO route, but will be offering up their own mobile games. Yes, video games. They’re teaming with a game developers to create a bunch of mobile sports games that will carry the NBC Sports brand. Think of NBC Sports as a MVVG (Mobile Virtual Video Game) company now. Of course, it makes you wonder, will anyone actually buy a mobile video game just because it has the NBC Sports brand on it?
