Verizon Wireless Goes After Two Telemarketers
Verizon Wireless has sued two telemarketers for placing millions of calls to its subscribers about timeshare vacation properties. However, as in some previous legal action against spammers, exactly why they’re suing is a little sketchy. Verizon says violations of the do-not-call list aren’t the basis, but rather the use of “banned automated dialers” — so, apparently, without the autodialers, everything would have been fine and dandy. While the do-not-call list has worked out well, other legislation and rules intended to curb unsolicited marketing seem to be having almost the reverse effect, laying out a how-to for people wanting to spam or make unsolicited marketing calls.
