Denial Of Service Attacker Gets Five Years In Jail

from the deny-that dept

Earlier this year, we had the story of a teen who owned a sporting goods e-commerce story who hired another teen to knock out his competitors’ websites with a distributed denial of service attack using zombie computers. Now, Broadband Reports notes that the kid who actually carried out the attacks has been sentenced to five years in prison along with a small fine. The guy who requested and paid for the attacks is still on trial. What’s still not clear, unfortunately, is how these guys were tracked down in the first place. We keep hearing all these stories about how those who run DDoS attacks are impossible to find — yet here’s one who got caught, and they never say how other than “an extensive investigation.”
