Spammers Move On To Scare Tactics?
from the getting-desperate? dept
Are spammers getting more desperate? A new report (from an anti-spam company, of course), claims that the traditional “hard sell” spam is losing ground to new spam messages that focus more on using scare tactics to get people to respond (e.g., “protect yourself now!”). Is this really new, however? It seems like there’s always been a mix of spam types, and these have always been popular.

This is news?
Yes, I know this isn’t a news site. But I’ve been getting spam like this for quite a while. Also phishing spam from eBay, paypal, and various banks all warning me my account will be frozen or deleted. How is what’s discussed in this article any different?
Re: This is news?
That’s why we asked if it was new… seems like it may just be yet another “announcement” by an anti-spam company to get some PR (which is why we don’t name the company in question).
