AOL Giving Out More Spammer Loot

from the rather-just-have-them-delete-my-spam dept

Following Microsoft’s settlement with Scott Richter this morning, it looks like AOL is going to bring back last year’s contest where they give away some of the assets they’ve seized from spammers. Last year it was a Porsche. This year, it’s $20,000 in gold bars, a Hummer H2 and $75,000 in cash. No, I don’t want to know what a spammer was doing with gold bars. Anyway, it makes a nice little promotion for AOL, but wouldn’t it be better if they just used that cash to catch more spammers and build even better spam filters? Update: The loot is apparently from Brad Bournival, one of the main characters found in Brian McWilliams’ Spam Kings.
