HP iPods No More

from the no-blue-ipod-for-you dept

A year and a half after revealing its “iPod killer” would be the iPod, HP says it will stop rebranding and selling the devices. HP accounted for just 5% of all iPod sales, and without Carly Fiorina around to protect her pet project — that appeared to have more to do with trying to raise her and the company’s hipness factor than anything else — the company trotted out the standby “change of strategy” line. HP says it remains committed to portable music players, but evidently a clause in the Apple deal says they can’t sell a product that competes wih the iPod until August 2006.
