Airplane Yakkers To Have Quiet Time?
from the no-talking! dept
While it doesn’t look like mobile phone service on planes will be coming to the US any time soon there are still efforts underway elsewhere. However, one of the main providers looking to get into the business, OnAir (formerly Tenzing), is trying to combat anger from passengers over the concept by offering airlines the ability to flip a switch and enforce “quiet time,” when no mobile phone calls will be allowed. Of course, that would require airlines to actually flip that switch, which might not happen. Still, if they’re letting data go through, what’s to stop people from simply switching to a VoIP connection? Voice is still data, even if it’s in flight.
