How To Make Mobile TV Even Less Appealing

While the real demand for mobile TV remains in question, operators and vendors plow full speed ahead. One common complaint about mobile TV and video has to do with the small screen size, so in an attempt to defeat that, European operator Orange will bundle special glasses with microdisplays inside that are supposed to deliver a “big screen” viewing experience equivalent to watching a 12-inch screen from 3 feet away. Orange is solving a problem that’s more imagined than real — even with such supposedly stunning display technology, it doesn’t matter when people just aren’t interested, and when the content provided isn’t compelling. Never mind the fact that people probably won’t be too interested in wearing the obtrusive glasses for any number of reasons, but it would serve these companies better to put as much energy into content as they’re putting into technology.
