Sprint Makes One Merger Hurdle Go Away With $1.3 Billion In Cash

It’s nice to have a bit of spare cash around. Just last week the various affiliated companies of Sprint and Nextel were making noises trying to block the Sprint-Nextel merger ahead of the final agreement. In Sprint’s case, the problem was reseller US Unwired, who was complaining that they were being bullied by Sprint. Of course, some of that was a position that US Unwired put themselves in by being totally reliant on Sprint in the first place. Either way, just as the case was set to go to court, Sprint decided they might as well pay up and avoid the whole issue, so they’ve purchased US Unwired for $1.3 billion in cash. Problem solved.
