Human Error Plagues UK Speed Cameras
from the again-and-again-and-again dept
Bob Dole writes “”The camera never lies” is the favorite cliche of speed camera fans. They assume because machines don’t make mistakes, the systems are without fault. Accuracy assumptions aside, this train of thought neglects the key role humans play in setting the devices up. Over the past few days, cameras in London and Lincolnshire UK are set to refund as much as US $900,000 in camera citations because speed limits were improperly set, improperly signed or were just plain inaccurate. In other words, the faulty human element is always there. London’s chief police detective was so fed up with these errors he wrote in Sunday’s London Times, ‘What is needed is fewer speed cameras, more traffic police and a proper recognition of the skill and importance of their work.’ “

Speed and red light cameras are pure evil. They are placed to generate revenue not improve safety. Read the five part series at The Daily Standard to learn the truth about red light and speed cameras. Most cameras are placed at intersections with lots of traffic not lots of red light violations and accidents.
