Lies, Damn Lies And Mobile Phone Subscribers

from the truth?--that-would-be-too-easy... dept

Just as newspapers inflate circulation numbers, it looks like plenty of mobile phone operators are finally admitting that they’ve been inflating mobile phone subscribers by counting obviously dormant “prepaid” accounts as active subscribers. Once again, the investment world’s infatuation with making the numbers grow has resulted in companies doing dodgy things to force those numbers to grow. Of course, on the positive side, maybe this means that market saturation isn’t as big a threat as some have been suggesting (not that we believe market saturation in mobile phones is that big a problem anyway).
