Intel Angry At Patent Trolls

from the stop-them dept

As the US Patent and Trademark Office considers somewhat pointless reforms, Intel (a very large patent holder) is noting that the real problem with the patent system are patent trolls who don’t necessarily do any innovating at all, but get their hands on patents and starts threatening everyone with huge damages in the hopes that companies will quickly settle, rather than go through an extended (and expensive) legal battle that gets even more costly if they lose. This isn’t a new issue, of course, but for some reason none of the suggested reforms seem to take on this issue.
