eBay Launches Craigslist Clone In Six Countries

from the so-that's-what-they-plan-to-do dept

While eBay surprised a lot of people by buying one quarter of Craigslist last summer (due to someone selling his shares to eBay, rather than the company looking for an investment), it looks like they’re taking what they’ve learned… and launching competitors.BusinessWeek’s Tech Beat points out that eBay has launched a free classified service in six countries under the Kijiji brand. While none of the locations are places where Craigslist has a presence, Craigslist has been expanding internationally — so you have to wonder if the two will start to bump into each other. eBay says they’re doing it to build up a sense of “community,” though, you have to wonder if Craig and company feel particularly communal towards their step-parent in this situation.

Re: craigslist clones

Hi, – I run 5 craigslist clones listed and linked to from the url above.

I wish they were a lot lower cost but I’m glad to see the scripts I own an Unlimited Domain License in are getting around now. It’s a great one – but could use some retooling – for instance let people leave ads without waiting for an email confirmation (up to admin) and all admin to place ads in all cities at once and maybe charge for users to do that.

Other than that it’s a great script.

A new BART classified website in Craigs' home city

This is a new classified ad website based in San francisco; the home of Craigslist, where it has created a classified ad community specifically for BART riders.

Here is a discription from the website:

Transit Bay Area Classifieds is a San francisco transit-based classified ad website that’s built for Bay Area Rapid Transit riders in the San francisco bay area. We have taken the buy and sell arena to the BART community by bringing a classified ad service to people who ride BART on a regular basis. With our BART transit-ad concept, San francisco BART riders can conveniently pre-arrange a transaction to buy, sell, or trade with other fellow Bay Area Rapid Transit commuters for items such as electronics, jewelry, tickets and other carry friendly items.

A classifieds startup business

A great option I found to start a sort of craigslist clone website is http://php-classifieds.com/ they have some templates to look at, specially one that looks just like craigslist, actually is almost identical, same design and functionality, I would highly suggest it, their customer service is excellent!

Mary
