Circuit City Checks Out Of Amazon Deal

from the going-it-alone dept

theodp writes “Citing growth at its own website, Circuit City has severed ties with Amazon.com, ending the agreement the two companies entered into August 2001 that enabled Circuit City to sell music stereos and DVD players and offer services, including in-store product pickup, to Amazon.com customers. Circuit City said it decided it was time to end the arrangement after launching its own redesigned site last September.” For the earlier part of this decade, it seemed that many top retailers were doing deals with Amazon to run their e-commerce operations. At the time, it made sense. Amazon had figured out how to do e-commerce much better than just about anyone else out there. However, it looks like others are catching up. Amazon continues to add new features, but apparently that’s not enough.
