Trademarking Bling
from the got-the-lawyer-hook-up? dept
Who knew you could trademark “bling”? An offering was recently launched called “Bling Tones” to offer hip hop related ringtones, but it turns out some other company claims they’ve got the trademark on “bling” in association with ringtones. The company also claims that Bling Tones shouldn’t be able to use the phrase “the hook up” in advertising, as they’re already using it. It certainly seems like a term like “bling” is pretty common, and it’s quite unlikely anyone is particularly confused over who’s providing what in this situation, but that won’t stop the lawyers from having their fun, apparently.
Comments on “Trademarking Bling”
The two phrases are...
“Bling Tones” and
“Get Some Bling in Your Ring”
One is a witty variant of “ring tones”
The other means “stuff money up your arse” (UK English)
Perhaps there’s a message here for the litigants.
