Let Them Watch Commercials!

from the trends-in-advertisements dept

Over at E-Media Tidbits, Steve Outing is realizing that many of the “luxury” consumer electronics products he’s been buying lately (a DVR, satellite radio) have let him pretty much remove typical commercial advertisements from his daily entertainment consumption. Since these still are luxury items, however, he wonders if commercial advertising trends will change, and begin to focus on less affluent segments of the population. In other words, will there be fewer TV and radio commercials for luxury cars, while, instead increased advertising for the local discount store? It might still be a stretch. As we’ve seen, good commercials still get plenty of attention, and advertisers will eventually figure out how to adjust to continue to target the more affluent parts of society that they like to go after anyway.
