Confusion Over BitTorrent And Legality

from the let's-try-this-again... dept

In a somewhat bizarre “brief,” ZDNet UK is claiming (incorrectly) that Suprnova is the “company behind BitTorrent” and that someone has been arrested for using BitTorrent. Obviously, Suprnova is not the “company behind BitTorrent” and has nothing to do with this story at all. The guy, in question, was simply sharing a file that he did not have the rights to, and using BitTorrent for that purpose. What he did was most likely illegal, but that was for sharing a file he did not have the rights to — not for using BitTorrent. Also, it’s not at all clear from the article if the guy in question put up the seed torrent, which made the file available, or simply tried to download the file (which means he would be uploading at the same time).
