Here Come The Non-Standard UWB Products

As we predicted over a year ago, no settlement has been reached in the UWB standards battle, but that isn’t going to stop people from pushing out non-standard UWB products. This is bad for everyone. Without a standard, vendors are going to be hesitant to adopt one standard, and those that do may later find themselves disappointed when it turns out they chose the wrong one. Consumers will also suffer — either buying incompatible equipment or going down the wrong road with a vendor who chose incorrectly. If the UWB standard had been settled a year ago, we’d all be talking about how UWB products were finally launching and what a great impact they were going to be on the marketplace. Instead, we have a mess that is unlikely to be sorted out any time soon.
