Doug Engelbart Wants To Tackle More Complex Issues
from the go-for-it dept
I recently heard someone joke (does anyone know who to credit for this?) that once Silicon Valley finally got around to recreating all of the stuff Doug Engelbart prototyped in the 60s, we’d run out of innovation. However, luckily, Engelbart is still hard at work coming up with new things that may take us a while to appreciate, just as it took people a while to appreciate the mouse and the GUI. The best quote, though, is when he (the guy who made computers much simpler to use) complains that everyone is trying to simplify things too much to get at the widest possible market: “It’s sort of like keeping everyone on tricycles, rather than letting them learn to ride a bicycle.” Okay, I now want my bicycle designed by Doug Engelbart.
