ICANN Has More Money To Screw Up With

from the well,-they've-done-such-a-good-job-already... dept

Because almost everything they’ve done has caused some sort of problem, it looks like ICANN now gets even more money to make a mess with. They’ve had their controversial budget approved. The budget is much, much larger than what they’ve had in the past, and it works by screwing the smaller registrars and making them pay much much more than they have in the past. Of course, to get this budget approved, they needed two-thirds of the registrars to agree, but it wasn’t “one vote, one registrar,” but weighted voting, so the larger registrars votes count for more. That’s a good thing for ICANN, because the new payment system is predicted to really cost some of the smaller registrars a pretty penny.
