Multiple Music File Standards Harming Download Services

The fact that all these different music download file formats and copy protection technologies are slowing down the adoption of music download services isn’t a new idea. Plenty of people have been saying that for years. Now, add the creator of the MP3 format to the mix, as he notes he’s tried to explain to everyone how standards help adoption, but they don’t listen. He is biased, obviously, considering that MP3s are the obvious standard. Still, the industry insists that they need to make customers’ lives more difficult in order to protect themselves. The problem is that they’re not protecting themselves, they’re simply driving people to route around them.
