India Using 3G Spectrum For 2G Reasons?
This article isn’t entirely clear, but it sounds like India is thinking about allocating spectrum reserved for 3G services to carriers offering 2G, worrying many that India will get left behind on 3G offerings. Given the booming market there, allocating the spectrum differently could create problems down the road. Of course, with many phones these days adding multi-band capabilities, and more than a few companies working on chip offerings that can switch between different technologies, maybe this eventually won’t be a major problem.
