WiFi Induced Theft

from the common-sense,-folks dept

There have been plenty of random complaints about WiFi, but now there’s one more “worry” to be associated with WiFi: all these hotspots may make it easier for your laptop to get stolen. Or, at least, that seems to be the point of this article from Silicon.com that complains that many hotspot providers aren’t the sort of place you should feel comfortable whipping out your expensive laptops. They suggest (along with a tremendous amount of hedging) that these hotspot providers are encouraging people to take out laptops where it might not be safe. This seems like something of a stretch. Does common sense really leave people behind at the first whiff of an available WiFi connection? If the location isn’t safe, people should recognize that on their own, and it should have nothing to do with the WiFi availability.
