Smartphones, Smartphones Everywhere
Since it’s likely to be the talk of the day in the handset world, we might as well get it out of the way early. Both Nokia and RIM have announced new smartphones that are likely to get plenty of attention. RIM should be pleased, though, as both will use their software. Nokia announced the 9300 communicator phone, which looks like a biggish phone, but then flips open to reveal a relatively large (for a phone) keyboard and what appears to be a fairly impressive screen. And, as noted, it will make use of the BlackBerry Connect offering for email (among other options). RIM’s offering, the 7100T finally creates a RIM device that looks something sort of like a phone, rather than a data device first. Still, it will be interesting to see if RIM can continue to take this combination approach offering both hardware and software for other handset makers. Either way, the smartphone market is starting to heat up.
