Telstra Looks At Turning Pay Phones Into WiFi
Taking a lead from Verizon Wireless in NY, it looks like Telstra now wants to turn many of its public pay phones into WiFi hotspots in the next few years. They already have the real estate, so they might as well, and it certainly fits with the fact that Telstra seems to want to offer every wireless technology imaginable. It’s not clear at this point how they’re planning to charge for it, though, they may want to steal further from Verizon and offer it for free to customers who already subscribe to DSL, as it’s been shown to reduce churn.
