Pull into the drive-through of a McDonald’s just off U.S. 55 near Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and the person taking your order is more than 900 miles away in a Colorado Springs call center. A McDonald’s IT VP says it is ‘way, way too early’ to tell if the call center idea would work across the chain’s 13,000 U.S. restaurants.” The claim is that by centralizing this service, it reduces the error rates and gets people through the drive-through faster — though, it’s not entirely clear why that’s true.
