China Locks Up VoIP Provider

from the bigger-issues dept

If you thought that US VoIP providers were having trouble because everyone wants to regulate them, just look at the situation in China. A man who was accused of the crime of offering VoIP in China now faces five years in jail. The government is pissed off because they believe he “stole” approximately $1 million in phone call fees that would have gone straight to the government controlled phone monopolies. See how much easier it is to run an inefficient business when you’re the government and you can just throw the best competitors in jail?
