Too Much Machine-To-Machine Hype

Watch out. The next area of wireless technology that seems to be getting hype way out of proportion with reality is machine-to-machine wireless connections. As the article notes, many of the current predictions focus on the total potential market, without looking at any of the (very many) hurdles in getting from here to there. This seems to be the situation with so many technologies (wireless or not) where the hype gets ahead of the reality. Obviously, there’s a ton of potential for machine-to-machine connections, but it’s going to take some time. Like many technology predictions, you should probably ignore the short-term predictions, while assuming many of the long-term extrapolations are underhyped.
