Using Bluetooth To Meet Your Neighbors

It seems like everyday now a new “wireless Friendster” or some other type of social software is developed to help you meet others via your mobile phones. The latest getting attention over the last month is a program called BEDD that uses Bluetooth to match a profile on your phone with profiles of those near you. It was released in Singapore last month, but already one of the users interviewed for this Reuters stories claims she’s become very close friends with a group of people by using it. People have talked about these kinds of apps before, and there have been some early versions/prototypes around, but now it looks like they’re reaching a point where they could become much more mainstream.
