Video Games And Hollywood Already On The Rocks?

from the that-was-quick dept

Over the last year or so there’s been a tremendous amount of hype about how video games were “going Hollywood,” as the various video game companies worked out deals to tie together new movies with new video games and new video games with new movies. There were stories about video games grossing more money than movies, and how movies were now being filmed with the video games in mind (including extra footage shot just for the video games). Now, however, just like a good Hollywood marriage, some are wondering if the relationship between video games and Hollywood is on the rocks already. Many gamers are finding that the games that are coming out based on movies aren’t particularly original, fun or interesting (sounds like a lot of Hollywood movies as well…). Also, just because either the original movie or video game has a huge following, there’s no guarantee that the corresponding video game or movie will be nearly as successful. Of course, at this point, it’s unlikely that we’re going to see any less of a relationship between the two industries, but at least the honeymoon period appears to be over.
