Geoffrey Giraffe Sues

theodp writes “ announced today that it filed a lawsuit against, charging the e-tailer with violating the letter and spirit of an agreement that called for to be the only authorized seller of Toy and Game and Baby Products on the platform through 2010. The lawsuit comes after attempted to resolve the matter amicably, including third party mediation.” There was some surprise a few years ago when Amazon signed up, who had made quite an effort to run their own e-commerce site – but had tremendous difficulties in doing so. Still, this legal dispute seems to focus on the fact that individual merchants are also selling toys and baby products – and not that Amazon has set up a specific shop selling competitive items. It would be pretty difficult for Amazon to tell their various individual merchants that they simply can’t sell toys or games – which would basically hand that entire market over to eBay.
