Nokia Drops Out Of WiMax Forum

For all the focus on WiMax this week, as a bunch of network operators joined the WiMax Forum, not much attention was paid to the fact that Nokia has quietly dropped out of the forum claiming, among other things, the the technology is at risk of being overhyped. Well, it’s already a bit late for that. If you read stories about WiMax these days, you’d think it had already put every other wireless technology out of business, when the reality is that it doesn’t even exist yet. Still, it’s likely this defection is a temporary move, and if WiMax really does start to live up to the hype, Nokia will definitely be around. In the meantime, though, it is a bit of a snub at Intel, who has been doing their best to promote WiMax.
