No Hard Drives For Your Mobile Phone Just Yet

Just a few weeks ago there were stories going around about how shrinking hard drive technology would allow mobile phones to start including hard drives. Now, however, IDC is saying we’re still a long way from making that happen. As small as they’ve gotten, they’d still take up quite a bit of room in a phone, and the drain on battery life is a major issue, since it’s one area that buyers tend to focus on. There is also the cost question, but that will decrease as production of smaller drives increases. All of these hurdles will eventually be solved, of course, but it looks like most phones will contain different (smaller) storage technologies for the time being.
