Carriers Teaming Up To Have More Say Over Handsets And Mobile OS

A bit short on details, but this report claims that Vodafone, Orange, Telefonica Moviles, TIM and T-Mobile (and possibly others) are teaming up to jointly agree on specs to give to handset makers, giving them increasing leverage. As part of this, they expect to “introduce a new operation system standard” and are even talking to the folks at Savaje about working with them on their OS. If the story is true, it’s likely that many more detailed reports will come out soon. In the meantime, it looks like yet another fight in the battle between carriers and handset makers for who has more leverage with the end-user.
