The Mobile Phone Train Dilemma
from the what-to-do,-what-to-do? dept
It appears that train operators in the UK are having a bit of a dilemma. Last week we wrote about a train driver disciplined for missing a signal because he was talking on his mobile phone. This week, the trains are having some technical difficulties with their radio system, and have gone back and forth on whether or not to use mobile phones instead. Regulations clearly forbid it. But, is no communication at all better? Management is telling drivers to use mobile phones, union leaders are saying they can’t violate the rules and put passenger safety at risk. Wouldn’t we all be better off if everyone spent this much effort fixing the radio system?
