Typing Tutor On Your Mobile Phone?

Alan Reiter points out that the new funky Voq phone with the fold out keyboard will include a “typing tutor” game with the phone to help people learn to type better. This reminds me that, twenty years ago, I learned to type playing just such a game on an Atari 800. Still, I wonder how useful this really is? With a regular computer keyboard, learning to touch-type is a very different skill than hunting-and-pecking. On a tiny mobile keyboard, with the keyboard and the screen so close together, and the use of just two thumbs, I’m not sure people really need to learn how to type, so much as practice text typing on a regular basis.
