Motorola Launches New GSM PTT Handset
In a bid to reclaim some of its lost market share in GSM markets, and specifically the EU, Motorola has launched the V400p, a round stylish handset with a camera, color, speakerphone, MP3 ringtones, and also Push-to-talk. PTT is seen by some as Motorola’s weapon in the EU market, since PTT is expected to grow (hard not to starting from 0) in the EU, and Motorola has by far the most experience building PTT terminals after providing ALL the PTT cellphone handsets in the world for the last 14 years. My take: talk about your indefensible differentiators… a speakerphone and a pushbutton is all that separates non PTT hardware from PTT hardware. Motorola may have better network know-how, and usage data, but as far as the handset design goes, it’s easily copied.
