Taipei Wants To Be Wireless Broadband Mecca
I kind of like the idea of various cities or nations announcing that they’re going to become a “leader” in wireless offerings, because it drives other locations to look into pushing wireless as well. Smart Mobs points us to this story about how the mayor of Taipei is claiming that they’ll cover the entire city with wireless broadband by the end of the year. Of course, they leave out all the (very important) details. In fact, it sounds as if there’s no real plan, but they’re going to try to come up with one. That could mean a wireless “broadband” solution that no one (other than government officials and telecom companies) would ever claim is truly broadband.
