Misunderstanding Verizon's EV-DO Plans

Okay, I’ll admit that this one is nitpicky, and could be the fault of a headline writer who is not the author of the actual piece, but the NY Times article on Verizon’s EV-DO plans has the headline: “Verizon Plans Fast Internet for Cellphones”. The DO in EV-DO is “data only” – as in it’s not about voice or mobile phones. While the service can be accessed via mobile phones, the point of the service is for data on any device – and most likely, they’re looking at devices other than mobile phones. Addendum from Derek: In fact, while Korean carriers seem to focus almost exclusively on phones as EV-DO terminals, we expect Verizon to focus on PCMCIA cards, at least for the next year (just like Vesper in Brazil and Monet Mobile in regional US markets).
