Here Comes Even More Digital Rights Management

from the wonderful dept

Because there are already too many competing digital rights management technologies floating around, such that the music you buy from one online store isn’t compatible with the music player you just got for the holidays, Philips and Sony, via InterTrust (which they own) will be releasing yet another digital rights management standard, which they believe will become the de facto standard that everyone uses. They expect it to be out within six months. Others expect it to be cracked within six months and one day. Once again, isn’t it nice to know that these companies are spending so much time and money to make products less useful for consumers?
