Gambling Your Money Away… On The Go

Everyone’s looking for the new “killer app” for mobile content, and there’s a lot of focus being paid to mobile gambling. There’s little doubt that there’s a ton of money to be made by hooking people on lotteries and other mobile games of chance. I’m wondering, however, if this will eventually backfire on the companies providing these services. Gambling can be quite an addiction for some, and making it even easier to gamble anywhere, anytime with no supervision is going to lead to stories of people gambling away their life savings while riding the bus to work or something. It’s nice that there’s money to be made, but people should also be thinking about the potential problems this may cause and how to deal with them when they happen. It’s not necessary to ban mobile gambling (no need to overreact), but people need to be aware of the downsides and not just ignore them.
