Is The Human Billboard Tattoo Working?

from the dot-com-nuttiness dept

During the boom years, Outpost.com had a commercial where they joked about tattooing the outpost.com log on the heads of babies to “get ’em while they’re young.” Real life imitated satire last year when people started offering to auction off various body parts for advertising tattoos on eBay. However, it sounds like companies were still a bit wary of agreeing to dot com style stunts. That phase passed, however, and in April, a man successfully sold the back of his head for an advertising tattoo for $7,000 (for five years, which seems like a pretty cheap deal for all involved). At the time, we pointed out that the hype surrounding the story from the company (CI Host) seemed a bit overblown. They claimed that it was making news everywhere – but the only news we could find (and we’re pretty good at finding news around here) was the press release the company issued. So, 9 months later, I’m going to take their claims with a grain of salt when they say that the advertising campaign of the man walking around with the CI Host logo tattooed to his head has directly led to 500 new customers. Signing up for a webhost isn’t exactly an impulse buy – and in the rare instance where it is an impulse buy, it’s because you’re sitting at a computer and have a domain name you want to host. You don’t see a strange man with a corporate tattoo on his head walking down the street, and suddenly decide it’s time to rush home and sign up with that company to host your website. Well, at least I wouldn’t.

Could humans actually be the next form of Corporate Branding?

Mark Chadwick, President of http://www.tatad.com says, ?Believe it or not!?

Corporations are now paying top dollar to use human bodies to brand their corporate logos. It?s the next generation of corporate branding according to Chadwick, who founded the Company Tatad Ink, a Vancouver based Marketing and Media Company, in an effort to fulfill the latest craze for human billboards as the next form of advertising. ?Internet, television, magazines and newspapers are all great forms of advertising, but they only hit the viewer one time. Tattooing corporate logos onto willing participants can last a lifetime and that?s what Tatad Ink is all about?.

Like something straight out of a science fiction movie, or Ripley?s, Believe It Or Not, Tatad Ink matches willing participants, with Corporations that search for an appropriate match of a person that fits the demographic and psychographic profiles of their target market.

Simply log-on to http://www.tatad.com, fill out a lifestyle survey and identify the area of your body that you are willing to have branded with a corporate logo. Participants must also identify how much they are willing to sell the ?real estate? on their body for. Then, get ready to cash in big time!

?All you have to do is fill out a lifestyle survey?, says Chadwick, ?identify the area of your body that you are willing to have branded, how much you are willing to get paid and let us do the rest!?

With a database already of 1000 willing participants across North America and a few internationally, Tatad Ink feels that they have hit a niche market in the ever-changing world of corporate branding. ?Some people have already received enough money to put themselves through college with a single tattoo? says Chadwick, who came up with the idea for Tatad Ink after seeing someone auction off the back of their head on E-bay for $7000. Every day the Company adds 20 to 30 new registrants, each with a detailed demographic/lifestyle profile and photograph.

CBC Television is currently filming a special 8-minute documentary on Tatad Ink, scheduled for broadcasting in the coming weeks. Chadwick feels that the international media exposure to this concept will help drive a huge influx of members to the Tatad database. Corporations will then have a huge variety of choices that they can make when choosing their candidate for branding.

Why not get paid by the brands you love? Tatad Ink. Get branded! Get paid!
