Non-Qualcomm CDMA Phones Coming Soon

Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics are getting ready to introduce 1xRTT and EV-DO chipsets that will compete with Qualcomm in phones. Right now, almost all CDMA phones use Qualcomm’s chipsets, which they have a ton of patent protection over. Samsung also produces a CDMA chipset, but they only use it in their own phones. This isn’t a surprise, of course. Qualcomm and TI have a licensing agreement and both are suing each other over violations on that agreement. The only change is that the TI product appears to be on its way to market.
