Handset Makers Caught Off Guard By Strong Sales
Apparently all anyone wants this holiday season is a mobile phone. Sales are booming, which is great, except if you are at a handset maker (many of them) that did a bad job forecasting the sudden demand surge. Handset makers are saying they can’t keep up with demand right now. This is, of course, a good sign in general. It appears that areas with lower mobile phone penetration are suddenly hot for cheap phones, while places where phones are already popular are having no problem upselling to fancier models. Apparently, all those worries about how the handset market was saturated were a bit overblown.
