China Goes With Their Own WiFi Security Standard

When it comes to China and wireless technologies, they really like to use their own, completely different, standards, don’t they? While they’re still muddling through on what to do about their 3G standard decision, China is now requiring all WiFi equipment to come with a completely different security standard than is being discussed anywhere else in the world. Various people are trying to get Chinese officials to change their mind, but it’s unclear whether or not that will happen. This could be a pain for any company hoping to crack the Chinese market with WiFi equipment (and there are plenty of companies who fit that description). All this is likely to do is make equipment more expensive as the hardware makers will have to make sure their boxes support multiple security standards.
