No More Delight At Amazon

from the so-much-for-that dept

theodp writes “Each year since 2000, Amazon.com has marked the holiday shopping season with the effusive-sounding Delight-O-Meter, an approximate running total of the items ordered on its retail sites worldwide. This year, the Delight-O-Meter is MIA. The Delight-O-Meter served as a fascination (and distraction) to Wall Street analysts who tried to dissect the running total for insight into the online retail giant’s financial picture.” We wrote about just how useless the Delight-O-Meter was last year, in that it didn’t actually give any useful information to analysts, and yet they still focused on it. Amazon won’t officially comment on the Delight-O-Meter, and it could still appear if they suddenly decided to turn it on.
